Statement Of Faith

God the Father

We believe in one true living God—the Creator of all things, holy, infinitely wise, perfectly just, limitlessly powerful, and full of unfailing love.  He exists in a unified relationship of three equally divine Persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.  He made all things for his glory and is to be treasured above all else.

God the Son

We believe that Jesus is the clearest and most decisive revelation of God.  For us and our salvation, he came down from heaven and became fully human.  As the eternal Son of God, he was miraculously born of a virgin, he lived a perfect life, died on the cross to atone for the sins of all people, rose bodily from the dead, and ascended into heaven where he reigns as King at the right hand of the Father.  One day Jesus will fulfill his promise to return in order to judge both the living and the dead.

God the Holy Spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit is a person who convicts the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment.  He is the supernatural agent in regeneration, baptizing all believers into the body of Christ, indwelling and sealing them unto the day of redemption.  He empowers and indwells each Christ-follower with spiritual gifts so that they will serve others and strengthen the fellowship of believers.

The Bible

We believe that the Bible is God's infallible and essential self-disclosure to humanity.  God has spoken in the Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, through the words of human authors.  The Bible’s main purposes are to reveal God, to equip believers to grow in spiritual maturity, and to enable them to participate in God’s mission for the world.

Matthew 7:24-27, Romans 15:4, 2 Timothy 3:16-17, 2 Peter 3:15-16; 1 Thessalonians 2:13; 2 Peter 1:21

Humanity

We believe that all people are both tremendously valuable and inherently broken.  God created us in his own image and we were intended to glorify and to have an intimate relationship with him.  We are tragically marred by an ingrained attitude of selfishness and disobedience toward God.  As a result of this sinful condition, we are spiritually dead and separated from him and from each other.  We are incapable of undoing the effects of sin; therefore we stand in need of God’s saving intervention.

Genesis 1:26-27, 2:17, 3:6, Psalm 8:3-6, Isaiah 53:6a, 59:1-2, Ephesians 2:1-3, Romans 3:23, 5:12-19, Ephesians 2:1-12, 1 John 1:8

Salvation

We believe that the death and resurrection of Jesus are God’s mightiest acts of redemption toward humanity.  Therefore, God alone has the power to restore individuals and communities from their brokenness.  Salvation begins with a personal conversion experience by grace through faith in Jesus.  We receive His gift of grace by turning from sin (repentance) and placing our trust in him (faith).  We demonstrate our commitment to following Jesus by obeying His command to be immersed (baptized) in water to reenact the Gospel events, namely Jesus’ death and resurrection.  Salvation continues with ongoing transformation into Christ-likeness and culminates in God’s final redemption.

The Church

We believe the church is the global community of Christ-followers that continues the earthly ministry of Jesus.  Therefore, the life and teachings of Jesus are the blueprints for the mission and identity of the church.  Healthy, biblical churches view themselves as tangible expressions of Christ’s body with Jesus himself functioning as the head.  The purpose of the church is to exalt God and make disciples of Jesus.

Matthew 16:17-18, Luke 4:16-19, John 20:21, Romans 12:4-10, 1 Corinthians 12:4-27, Colossians 1:18

The Kingdom of God

We believe that those who have been saved by grace through faith enter and participate in the kingdom of God.  As citizens of this kingdom, our King commands us to love him supremely and to love others sacrificially.  He calls us to live out our faith with care for one another, compassion toward the poor, and justice for the oppressed.  We have been commissioned by our Lord to be salt in a world that is decaying and light in a world that is dark.  We should neither withdraw from the world, nor embrace the world’s values.  Rather, we are to work diligently in the world as God’s co-workers until he returns according to his promise.
